Heba Al-Ayouti's story first gained attention on social media, where news circulated that a doctor injected her with a sterilising chemical instead of a contrast dye for a routine scan South Cairo Prosecution ordered Saturday the arrest of a doctor and a nurse for four days pending investigations into a case of medical negligence that led to the death of Heba Al-Ayouti, Al-Ahram Arabic website reported. The prosecution's investigations showed that Al-Ayouti, 26, was undergoing a routine scan on her uterus in Cairo's private Nile Badrawi Hospital when her mother heard her screams. The doctor told the mother that he injected Al-Ayouti with a shot for allergy, but her condition worsened causing the doctors to remove parts of her intestines. Al-Ayouti's family flew her to Germany but she returned a day later when German doctors confirmed her worsening condition. Upon her arrival to Cairo, Al-Ayouti died. The defendants denied to the prosecution injecting Al-Ayouti with a chemical substance. The prosecution is set to listen to the testimonies of some of the hospital's officials. Al-Ayouti's story first gained attention on social media, where news circulated that the doctor injected her with a sterilising chemical instead of a contrast dye for the scan. Facebook pages have been set up demanding the hospital and medical personnel involved be prosecuted. Medical negligence is alarmingly common in Egypt. A similar incident occurred recently when scriptwriter Nadine Shams died 22 March following a health deterioration her family blamed on a medical mistake made during an operation she had had days before. http://english.ahram.org.eg/News/103642.aspx
