Rival presidential candidates plan events in Egypt's Qalioubiya
Supporters of Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi to urge voters not to boycott the election, while supporters of Hamdeen Sabahi will discuss his electoral programme
Published in Ahram Online on 17 - 05 - 2014

The campaign of presidential hopeful Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi, who leads in all recent polls, will hold a rally on Saturday in the Nile Delta governorate of Qalioubiya, urging supporters to turn out on election day in large numbers arguing that the results of the elections are already settled.
The Muslim Brotherhood-led National Alliance to Support Legitimacy has called on Egyptians to boycott the vote, arguing that ousted president Morsi remains the legitimate president.
Hamdeen Sabahi, the only other candidate running in the election, will also hold a public event in Qalioubiya on Saturday. His campaign is planning human chain protests in support of their candidate in Toukh and Banha cities, with the aim of publicising his electoral programme.
Sabahi's campaign has recently published a detailed election manifesto on their official website. El-Sisi has yet to publish a manifesto or programme.
Voters will go to the polls on 26-27 May. Overseas polling stations opened on Thursday and will remain open until Sunday.
The Wafd Party, the Free Egyptians Party, the Nour Party, the Conference Party, the Tagamoa Party, the Rebel (Tamarod) campaign and the Nasserist Party have all publicly backed El-Sisi.
Sabahi has received public affirmations of support from the Constitution Party, Sabahi's own Karama Party, the Egypt Freedom Party, the Socialist Popular Alliance, the Revolutionary Socialists and the Egyptian Popular Current.
The National Alliance to Support Legitimacy, the Strong Egypt Party and the April 6 Youth Movement are calling for a boycott of the polls.
