CAIRO: The Japan Foundation in Cairo has dedicated a film festival about Japan's ‘spirit of renaissance' after World War II to Egypt. The film festival, showcasing works by Japanese director Takashi Koizumi, opens at the Cairo Opera House on Sunday. The foundation will hold a symposium for Koizumi after screening his films. Entry will be with free and tickets will be available on the day of the screening from the Opera House's ticket office. Koizumi was born in 1944 in Japan. After receiving a degree from Waseda University, he began his career in filmmaking. Koizumi worked as an assistant director with Kurosawa throughout his career, beginning with the documentary ‘Song of Horses.' He was involved in ‘Kagemusha' (1980), ‘Ran' (1985), ‘Dreams' (1990), ‘Rhapsody in August' (1991) and ‘Not Yet' (1993), among others.
