The American Ambassador to Egypt, Ann Patterson, offered financial aid for the Supreme Electoral Committee but it was declined, said the head of the committee, Abdel Moez Ibrahim, adding that the entire electoral process was financed by the Egyptian government. Ibrahim's statements came after a meeting between the committee and Patterson Sunday. The committee declined any aid, both Egyptian and international, said Ibrahim. He also said that the American ambassador praised procedures taken during the elections, and considered the mistakes as minor ones. We cannot decide which party or coalition won the elections yet, and the winners will be declared after the second and third stage of the elections, he said. Patterson affirmed that the U.S. appreciates the detailed announcement of electoral violations announced by Ibrahim, and his promise to avoid them in the future. She also said that The Carter Center reported on the electoral process, praising the experiment and mentioning mistakes that could be avoided in the future.
