CAIRO: A new statue was unearthed during the excavations in the area of Amenhotep III at the West Bank of the Nile River. The colored statue is made of quartzite, 10.65 meters, its weight 100 tons. The excavations started in the site seven months ago by the mission of the Supreme Council of Antiquities. The statue is one of two statues belonging to Amenhotep III and it was standing at the north entrance of Amenhotep's temple, according to press release from SCA. The two statues could have been destroyed during an earthquake in 27 B.C. then buried underground, the release added. The other statue was found two months ago. The first statue is wearing a while crown, while the other wears a red one. The statue is being restored to be placed in the temple, according to the release.
