No criminal reports concerning elections or violations were filed in Egypt's Mediterranean city of Alexandria yesterday, the first day of parliamentary elections, according to the governorate's security director. “Not reporting any criminal records in the first day of elections is considered a one of a kind historical precedent in Alexandria,” said security director General Khaeld Gharaba. He added that past elections witnessed many criminal reports and investigations due to riots outside polling stations. The absence of such incidences during these elections demonstrates citizens' heightened awareness. Gharaba said police patrols in charge of securing polling stations patrolled streets and districts where the stations are located. He said the ballot boxes were secured after being collected in one commission of each electoral district under the supervision of judges, Armed Forces members, and commission delegates. They were opened today under judicial supervision. He pointed out that police officers' role is limited to securing the polling stations from the outside, and they are not allowed to enter.
