CAIRO: Former Chairman of the National Democratic Party Talaat al-Sadat died today after suffering a heart attack early this morning. He was transferred to the National Bank of al-Katameya Hospital, but succumbed shortly after arriving. He was 64 years old. Al-Sadat was born in 1946 and worked for much of his life as an attorney. He defended many people and participated in the high-profile case of the so-called Beni Mazar Massacre in which the defendant was accused of killing ten people in Minya. Al-Sadat secured a non-guilty verdict for him. The former parliamentarian also served as Chairman of the National Democratic Party, but remained in his post for only three days from April 13 to April 16 after the judiciary decided to dissolve the former ruling party. Al-Sadat had earlier scheduled campaign conferences in Menoufia to organize and support candidates in his party running for parliament seats.
