CAIRO: Presidential elections will occur directly after the people's approval of the new constitution next year, Egyptian Foreign Minister Mohamed Kamel Amr yesterday said. “The People's Assembly and Shura Council's elections will be held on November 28,” Amr said in an interview with Algerian TV on Monday. The first meeting of the two councils will be held on March 27, 2012 wherein they will select 100 members to sit on a body to draft the new constitution, he said. “Once the constitution is drafted, it will be put up for referendum and if approved, the presidential elections will immediately follow,” he added. He also pledged that the presidential elections will be fair and transparent. “There is no need to review the peace accord with Israel, as both Israel and Egypt are committed to the provisions in the accord,” he added.
