The Gesr el Arab Company deliberately sunk the ferry “Bella” on Monday morning to conceal the issues that led to the fire onboard during its voyage from the Jordanian port in Aqaba to Nuweiba in Egypt, sources in the port said. The ferry was carrying 1,230 passengers. “The company wanted to hide the reasons for the fire onboard the ferry,” the source told Youm7. Members of the crew confirmed that they chartered the ship last Wednesday from Nuweiba and there were technical problems in the engine. The ferry arrived in Aqaba but on the return trip it caught fire about a half hour into its voyage, sources added. All passengers were rescued from the ferry.
