CAIRO: Egyptian electoral law prohibits the use of mosques and other places of worship in the electoral campaigns of parliamentary candidates, according Supreme Electoral Committee Chairman Abdel Moez Ibrahim. Some candidates used mosques to promote specific candidates during Eid al-Adha prayers on Sunday. In response, Ibrahim told Youm7 that the rules determined by the judicial committee should not be violated. A number of mosques promoted various Islamic parties during their Eid sermons on Sunday and preachers called on the people to elect specific candidates during upcoming parliamentary elections. Both acts violate the electoral law. In related news, political parties are scheduled to complete their electoral lists so the final candidate lists can be announced on Tuesday.
