April 6 Youth Movement, Essam Sharaf, CAIRO: National Egypt Party Chairman Talaat Sadat today filed lawsuits against the April 6 Youth Movement, accusing them of receiving foreign funds and plotting to divide Egypt into four states. “If Egyptian Prime Minister Essam Sharaf is an honorable man, he would reveal all the names of the organizations receiving foreign funds,” Sadat said, claiming that Sharaf received the names of such organizations from U.S. ambassador to Cairo Anne Patterson. Sadat's condemnation of the Youth Movement came today at a press conference attended by thousands of National Egypt Party members in the Menoufia governorate. The conference convened to discuss the exclusion of the proportional representation list from the upcoming Egyptian parliamentary elections. Sadat urged government officials to “give youth their chance,” and demanded that all Egyptians receive basic education and medical needs. “The Supreme Council of the Armed Forces should face down those who break the law,” he said at the press conference. If the military collapses, Egypt would become another Somalia, he added, claiming that this is what the U.S. and Israel wants to happen.
