The Egyptian Writers Union marched to the headquarters of the Arab League Wednesday, demanding it suspend the Syrian and Yemeni regimes' membership in the pan-Arab body. The march included a large number of Egyptian writers and thinkers as well as a number of Syrian activists. The head of Arab relations in the union delivered the Arab League a statement that condemned the violent suppression of demonstrations demanding real reform in their countries. The union expressed its refusal of any foreign interference in the internal affairs of the Arab countries, stressing the need to protect Arab unity. Chairman of the Union, Mohamed Salmawy, said he called for the protest as the leader of the union, and confirmed his support for the content of the statement.
