Nobel Prize-winning scientist Ahmed Zewali today attended the inauguration of the Zewali City for Science and Technology, a project that was rejected previously by the now-ousted regime. “This project is not only a university but also a non-profit project that will boost Egypt's national production,” Zewali said in a speech at the ceremony. The project is designed to be a network that unites scientists and researchers all over Egypt, he said, adding that in December he will go on a tour of Egyptian universities to introduce the project and ensure professors' roles. Researchers at Nile University will play a big part in the project, he added. “This is a national project so I hope the Education Fund will help us, and I hope all Egyptians will help the project, too,” he added in his closing remarks. “The project will be the nucleus of research centers affiliated with the Ministry of Higher Education,” said Minister Mutaz Khorshid. “It is an important contribution to the future and advancement of scientific research in Egypt,” said Egyptian Prime Minister Essam Sharaf. The Egyptian Ministers of Planning and International Cooperation, Education, Higher Education and State for Scientific Research also attended the opening of the center.
