EU Parliament adopted a resolution to condemn persecution against the Christian minority in Egypt and Syria on Thursday October 27. The resolution criticized the authorities in both countries. The EU Parliament condemned the killing of peaceful demonstrators in Egypt and Syria, calling upon authorities in both societies to protect the Christian societies. The parliament demanded Egypt's ruling military council to protect the Copts and allow them express their beliefs freely throughout Egypt. He called upon the protection of Coptic Christian churches and to prevent extremists from assaulting them. It also demanded Egypt's ruling military council to lift the Emergency Law and suspend military trials of civilians since such measures violate freedom of expression. The EU Parliament expressed its anxiety over the kidnapping of Coptic Christian girls and forcing them to embrace Islam. They demand the Egyptian government to end discrimination against Coptic Christians and take serious measures against those who violate the principles of human rights. On Syria, the EU Parliament criticized violations committed against Syrian Christians. It added the Christians in Syria are reduced to eight percent of the population after they made up ten percent of the population. The resolution also condemned the excessive use of force against demonstrators who call for democracy and defend the principles of human rights.
