Egypt to hosts 1st International conference on Renewable Energy
Published in Youm7 on 27 - 10 - 2011

CAIRO: Egypt will host the First International Conference on Renewable Energy and Technology, organized by the Egyptian Society for Environmental Quality from Nov 2 to 5. The conference will be attended by academics and experts from Egypt, the Arab world, and foreign countries.
The 3-day conference tackles seven pillars concerning the importance of renewable energy as a strategic choice in the international and national arena, said Hossam Khairullah, CEO of the society.
The conference focuses on solar energy, funding projects and economic policies, facing desertification, protecting shores, processing and manufacturing polluted substances, the quality of ground water, desalination of sea-water, and other topics, Khairullah said.
The conference sheds light on good investment in Egyptian energy resources, by using modern and scientific ways to specialize in renewable energy.
The Egyptian Society aims to enact strategies to face climate change threatening the world.
Solar energy is the most important renewable source in Egypt, as the sun falls on Egyptian territories between 9 and 11 hours a day. Egypt can provide enough energy to operate factories, and alternative energies could cultivate 2 million acres towards achieving self-sufficiency in agriculture, Hossam continued.
The world is using garbage to produce renewable energy, added Hossam. He noted that Cairo alone produces 17,000 tons (15,420 metric tons) of trash capable of producing electricity equal to what three power plants can produce. As for the Egyptian governorates, 3,000 to 4,400 tons (2,722 to 3,991 metric tons) of trash produced each day could produce between 66 and 88 megawatts of power.
