Implementing the Islamic Sharia is a main guarantee of Copts rights, said Saad al-Hussieni, member of the executive office of the Freedom and Justice Party at a meeting with former French Senator Adrian Gouteyron. He said that the Islamic law ensures religious freedom, and it would provide Egypt's Copts with the right to build churches. He said that Copts are not a faction or minority in Egypt, as they are a main part of Egyptian society. Husseini described the clashes that erupted at Maspiro as a transient event that do not suggest that there is sectarian tension in Egypt. Hussieni said that the Freedom and Justice party issued many statements calling for and end to the current sectarian tensions that could destabilize the country. He blamed the former regime for not regulating unlicensed churches, and demanded the government draft a timetable to resolve the problem of these churches. Gouteyron expressed his pleasure to be visiting Egypt after the revolution. He said his country is keen to support democracy in Egypt as it complies with the principles of the French Revolution
