Hend el-Kady yesterday submitted papers for candidacy in both the Egyptian People's Assembly and the Shura Council, a first-time phenomenon, as an independent of the Omraneya constituency. El-Kady said that she doesn't belong to any political parties because they do not practice democracy. “I will run in the elections to devote my efforts to charities,” she said, indicating that she is the Chairwoman of the Department of Mast el-Kheir Association. She also pointed out that she had not faced difficulty submitting her papers and the law allows her to run for both the People's Assembly and the Shura Council. Head of the Elections Committee in Giza Osama Shahin assured that there is no law preventing a candidate from doing so, adding that “if a candidate succeeds in both elections, he must leave one post.”
