Economics Links: New oases were discovered in the Western Desert's sand sea that include 3.07 million acres of arable land, according to Khaled Abdel Kader Ouda, a geology professor at Asyut University. “We have been teaching our students incorrect information for 50 years from deficient science textbooks that say that the Egyptian sand sea is a giant form of sand dunes,” said Ouda during a press conference held at the Al-Ahram Institute. “It was discovered that beneath this sea Nubian sandstone contains fresh groundwater that could create an agricultural society surrounding it.” According to Ouda, the newly discovered Oases were named for January 25 Revolution. Tahrir Oasis, Martyrs' Depression, Army Hill and Revolution Hills were amongst the names of the new discoveries. Ouda said that these discoveries took place after efforts in the period between June 28 and July 6, in coordination with the Ministry of Agriculture. Ouda said that the Egyptian government must be aware that a third of the Egyptian Delta will be submerged and therefore new societies must be built in the Western desert.
