CAIRO: Field Marshal Hussein Tantawi, head of Egypt's ruling military council, is incapable of ruling, according to an Israeli website. The website, "Walla," published a report today covering the 10-month-old revolution that toppled Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak from power. The report says Egyptians are not content with the achievements of the revolution so far. The report says that Tantawi, one of the heroes of Egypt's October War and long-time defense minister, is unable to achieve the demands of the January 25 Revolution. When Tantawi visited the Egyptian street in civilian clothes rather than his military uniform, he did not expect the visit would lead to rumors that the military leader planned to run for president, the website said. It added that these rumors were published in all forms of the Egyptian media. Egyptians are frustrated and angry at the deteriorating economy, increasing unemployment and investment escaping outside the country, the website added. Furthermore, Egyptians are not satisfied with the timing of presidential elections and they see that there is practically no change in Egypt after the revolution. The report said Egypt's military council responded to these claims in Tantawi's speech on October 6. He said the military will not nominate a candidate for president and will hand over power to a civilian authority as soon as possible. Yet despite Tantawi's statements, people continued to demonstrate in Tahrir Square, the report said. Protests even reach the newspapers, and columnists published blank editorials protesting military censorship. The first one to initiate this protest, said the report, was Khaled Salah, Editor-in-Chief of Youm7. Other editors-in-chief followed him, including Adel Hamouda of al-Fagr newspaper and Amr el-Leithi of weekly "al-Khamis." Although there are people against the military council's rule, there are others who want the military to continue ruling Egypt during this transitional period, the report said. "[Former President Anwar] Sadat is not like [Hosni] Mubarak as Sadat gained many achievements marked by history but Mubarak did not do these achievements in many Egyptians' point of views," the website added.
