CAIRO: Head of the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF), Mohamed Hussein Tantawi, met with American Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta, to discuss bilateral relations between Egypt and the United States. The meeting tackled the situation in the region and changes in international and national affairs. It also discussed ways to enhance military cooperation based on shared security and military interests. Panetta praised the council's ability to bypass all obstacles during the transitional period. Panetta also called on all foreign and local civil society organizations to follow the electoral process in Egypt. The Egyptian Chief of Staff, Sami Anan, other members of the SCAF, and U.S. ambassador to Egypt, Ann Paterson, attended the meeting.
