CAIRO – Egyptian President Essam Sharaf today went to the military council's morning meeting, which was held just a few hours prior to the Cabinet meeting. The Cabinet is scheduled to discuss the new amendments to the Shura Council and People's Assembly laws, which were presented by the ruling military council. The Cabinet will also undertake a discussion regarding new amendments to the constitution related to parliamentary elections. The meeting will cover Article Five, which addresses political parties and independents running for parliamentary seats. The Cabinet will also discuss the need for the emergency law and when it can be used as well as a piece of legislation that bans some members of the disgraced National Democratic Party from running in elections. Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces Sami Anan discussed these amendments earlier with members of political parties.
