Germany's foreign minister, Guido Westerwelle, will allocate 150 million Euros (U.S. $200 million) to support democracy in Egypt and Tunisia, said Corneilia Pierre, German Minister of State for Foreign Affairs at a speech celebrating the anniversary of Germany unity Sunday. Pierre said 2011 is considered one of the most exceptional years, as it witnessed the revolutions of the Arab Spring by Egypt's Youth. Pierre said the revolutions remind Germans what Germans did during their own peaceful revolution in East Germany in 1989, which brought down the Berlin Wall. Pierre said the funds would be allocated from 2011 to 2013 to support democracy in both Egypt and Tunisia. Pierre underlined her country willingness to support Egypt in the coming period. Michael Bock, the German Ambassador to Egypt, said Germans followed last January's events with encouragement. Bock pointed to the importance of women's role during the January 25 revolutions, saying that Egypt's future will depend on empowerment of women.
