Council of Ministers will hold its weekly meeting chaired by Prime Minister Essam Sharaf Monday, to discuss amendments to the Electoral Law requested by the military, a senior government source told “Youm 7” The cabinet also will discuss amendments the new constitution and the upcoming parliamentary elections. The cabinet will also amend Article 5 of the Electoral Law to allow members of political parties to compete for the third of seats reserved for independent candidates. They will discuss lifting the state of emergency except for certain crimes, and look into legislation that would prohibit members of the dissolved National Democratic Party (NDP) from participating in politics According to the source, the meeting was rescheduled to accommodate celebrations for Armed Forces Day, and is not emergency or extraordinary, as reported by some media.
