Around 500 protesters are currently staging a sit-in Tahrir Square, including a number of political movements such as the Independent Union for Egypt and the Victims of the Revolution, in addition to a number of independent activists. Gatherings spread across the square and discussions expanded about a rally for Sunday in conjunction with the end of the deadline the Democratic Alliance gave Egypt's ruling military council to respond to their demands. They include amending the election law, suspending the Emergency Law and releasing all political prisoners since the Egyptian January 25 Revolution. There were a number of public figures in the square including artist Azza Balbaa who was surrounded by youth and people who chanted patriotic songs. The September 9 Front called for a protest this afternoon in front of the High Court demanding the release of those detained during the protests at the Israeli embassy.
