CAIRO: Egyptian Minister of Local Development Mohamed Atiya said he will demand that Egypt's governors be neutral during the country's upcoming parliamentary elections. He said the role of governors during elections will be limited to providing headquarters for the electoral committees. Atiya added that he will not allow thugs or remnants of the formerly ruling National Democratic Party to threaten the electoral process. He said that military troops and security forces will exert their best efforts to protect the electoral committees. The Egyptian minister said the public committees will also participate in securing the electoral committees and organizing citizens during the voting process in different governorates.
