Japanese language guides, Japanese officials in Egyptian tourism companies and other members of the tourism sector today organized a peaceful march passing through Tahrir Square, the Egytian Museum and the EgyptAir office in Talaat Harb. The demonstrators are protesting an EgyptAir decision to delay the direct flights between Cairo and Tokyo, made without reason. “Japanese tourists spend upwards of ten times the amount that European tourists spend,” some guides claimed. “Many, many thousands of Japanese tourists visit Egypt each year, many of whom take tours from the very north of the country to the very south.” The guides also demanded that flights to Japan be resumed to protect Egypt's tourism reputation. Banners reading, “Guides Who Pay the Revolution's Cost,” were prominently displayed during the march. This decision will harm Egyptian tourism, particularly because Japanese consider Egypt a top tourism destination, Japanese officials said. Arabic here
