WASHINGTON: U.S. President Barack Obama informed the President of the Palestinian Authority, Mahmoud Abbas, that moving to the UN will not achieve recognition of the Palestinian State during his speech for General Assembly of the UN. Obama met Abbas today in New York as part of General Assembly of UN meetings. Obama demanded Abbas go back on his negotiations. Obama said the U.S. will use their right to Veto in the Security Council in order to prevent from recognizing the Palestinian State. Obama said he supports the recognition of the Palestinian State but only through negotiations. Obama also met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu yesterday. Netanyahu and Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman thanked Obama for supporting Israel. Israel Voice Radio reported Netanyahu said Obama's speech deserved a medal of honor since he proved his support for Israel. Netanyahu expects the Palestinians' efforts to get a membership and recognition from the UN will fail. He said peace will be applied in Middle East through negotiations between Israel and Palestine. Israel's Minister of Defense Ehud Barak said Obama proved again he is a loyal friend to Israel. Barak also said Israel appreciates the support of the U.S. administration. Lieberman said Obama's speech will destroy the Palestinians' efforts. He said Palestinians must negotiate with Israel in order to announce and recognize their State.
