Egypt is keen on continuing all forms of support to North and South Sudan, despite the end of the United Nations mission in Sudan, said an official source at the Foreign Ministry. The source stressed Egypt's intent of achieving stability, security and development between the two countries, both through the UN and the UN-African Union cooperative effort in Darfur, UNAMID, in which Egyptian armed forces and police participated. The source also pointed to already existing mechanisms of bilateral cooperation, including technical and human support for institution building and training. The Egyptian forces working in the United Nations' peacekeeping operation in Sudan have completed their tasks, as its mandate expired on July 9. Egyptian troops began to return home on Aug. 16 after the successful implementation of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement.
