CAIRO: The Egyptian ruling military council today called all political parties together for a meeting to discuss arrangements for the upcoming parliamentary elections. The Egyptian Minister of Information announced that judges from the High Constitutional Court will attend the meeting to discuss legal practicalities about the elections. The Freedom and Justice Party (FJP), the political entity of the Muslim Brotherhood, announced that they had been called to the meeting. Chairman of the Party Mohamed Morssi will attend. The FJP will commit to the demands announced by the Democratic Coalition for Change, sources said. “The al-Tagammu Party will propose a number of pieces of legislation regarding parliamentary election law,” said Refaat al-Said, chairman of the Party. “These will include a demand to include articles for the next constitution.” The al-Nour Party confirmed that it will attempt to block any attempt to include supra-constitutional principles. “The military council called the meeting in an attempt to convince members to abandon a plan to demand elections based on proportional representation,” the al-Nour Party Chairman said. Al-Wafd Party member Yassin Tag al-Din said that his party insists on conducting parliamentary elections on the basis of proportional representation. “The Karama Party will protest the extension of the emergency law during the meeting,” said Ameen Alexandar, secretary of the Party. “The Egyptian Citizen Party will demand that elections be postponed due to security conditions,” said Salah Hassab Allah, secretary of the Party. “New parties need more time to prepare for elections,” Allah added. “The Justice Party will raise the necessity of cancelling the emergency law,” said Mustafa al-Nagar, co-founder of the Party.
