On the first day of this school year, there were new problems raised by Egyptian teachers who call for their rights. The strikes spread across Egypt's governorates today, the first day of the school year. In Asyut, schools continue to strike and principals expect an increase in the numbers of protesting teachers. In South Sinai, hundreds of teachers organized public strikes. They protested outside the General Cabinet of directorate of education. Teachers refused to work and called for an increase in their salaries and bonuses. In Bahaira, teachers joined the strike inside schools, where they refused to enter classes. In Kafr el-Dawar, teachers refused to join the strikes and continued working after there was news concerning punishment to any protestor. The school year in Fayoum began with anger among teachers after the last elections of the Teacher's Syndicate. Many teachers headed to the Teachers Syndicate in Cairo, but the gates were closed. In Kafr el-Sheikh, 12 schools witnessed a protest by teachers who refused to work, and 231 schools started working without strikes. The independent Teachers Syndicate in Menufiya announced that teachers will strike in five educational directorates. Teachers in Aswan said they will join the teachers' strike in Cairo today. Aswan teachers announced their refusal to the ignorance practiced by the Ministry of Education of the rights of Egyptian teachers. They decided the strike would be inside schools, to maintain students' security. For Meniya, there was a state of confusion in all schools where teachers refused to join the teachers' strike. They said their demands could be achieved without strikes. There were also national committees outside schools to secure the schools and students from thuggery. In Alexandria, schools witnessed a delay in coordination, especially kindergartens. There was a delay also on the first day of school in some preparatory schools, but there were no announcements of closure of any schools. In Daqahlia, there was a partial strike in some schools during the first few minutes of school today. Teachers stood outside classes and refused to work, after announcing they had joined the teachers' strike. In Sohag, there were limited strikes all over the schools. Teachers protested inside schools and refused to enter classes. They demanded to receive their rights in bonuses and to include teachers' salaries in the minimum wages. In Gharbiya, there were hundreds of teachers protesting inside classes, where some teachers asked the students to leave the school until the end of the week. There were some clashes among teachers and students' parents in Tanta, after the teachers protested outside classes and stopped working. Teachers claimed that this strike was for the benefit of the students.
