Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez expressed his support for Palestinian's quest to gain international recognition of statehood in the UN. He expected there will be vital discussions in the next UN meeting about the Palestinian's demand and the situation in Libya. A Spanish newspaper quoted Chavez saying, "It is a suitable time to recognize the Palestinian state and providing it with a seat in the UN." He added he will follow sessions to witness the discussion of the issue since he cannot attend them. In the same context, the Venezuelan Foreign Minister visited Shatila and Bourj el-Barajneh camps to brief on the social situation of Palestinians living there. The Venezuelan top diplomat said Venezuela will remain defending the Palestinian rights to gain their legal rights. He added Venezuelans support the Palestinians' struggle to gain their independence as a state.
