Former minister's appeal to unfreeze assets denied

CAIRO: The Cairo Criminal Court today denied an appeal filed by former Egyptian Minister of Trade and Industry Rashid to unfreeze accounts in order to investigate and study all pending warrants.
The former minister's attorney filed the appeal and Rashid's wife was summoned for interrogation about the family's wealth, but she was absent from the proceedings.
The Illicit Profit Department earlier decided to freeze the assets of Rashid and his family. The Department also asked the Appeals Court and the public prosecutor to investigate concealed accounts.
