Abdel Rahman Fawzy, head of trade agreements at the Ministry of Industry and Foreign Trade, said that the ministry is considering only allowing imports from the country of origin, citing requests made to the ministry. Fawzy said the bans would only allow imports after confirming they came from the country of origin through documents issued by international auditing firms. He noted the law could be applied automotive parts, garments, leather, shoes and household appliances. Fawzy also pointed to the need to focus on industry standards on all products for the safety of the Egyptian consumers and to eliminate counterfeit goods causing problems in the domestic market.
