The January 25 Revolution and the ousting of former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak profoundly inspired Egyptians around Cairo, particularly the creative artists who had been stymied for decades under the thumb of the oppressive regime. The sudden proliferation of street artist's revolutionary graffiti, which designers used to reclaim and reconstruct the drab landscape of a city newly afresh from dictatorial rule, was one manifestation of this spirit. Townhouse Gallery of Contemporary Art will showcase the work of some of these artists on Sunday, September 18 at 7 p.m. in an exhibition titled, “This is Not Grafitti.” The show will highlight nine artists and their work in an enclosed space – an attempt to reconstruct the street feel of the urban art form. The group of artists, all known for raw, pure ability, includes: Keizer, Sad Panda, El Teneen, Adham Bakry, Dokhan, Hend Kheera, Hany Khaled, Charles Akl and Amr Gamal.
