The Battle of the Camel trial is taking place while, simultaneously, leader of the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF) Field Marshal Hussein Tantawi begins his testimony at the trial for ousted Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, his two sons Alaa and Gamal, former Interior Minister Habib al-Adly and his six top security chiefs. The Mubarak trial convened at the Police Academy in Cairo's Fifth Settlement earlier this morning. Clashes between martyrs' attorneys and security forces erupted this morning outside the gates of the Police Academy after some lawyers were prevented from entering the courtroom. Journalists were also denied entry. Defendants continue to appear at the Cairo courthouse including former member of the People's Assembly Mortada Mansour, who arrived amidst a swarm of supporters. Some members of the Martyr's coalition tried to attack businessman Mohamed Abu el-Einein, a defendant in the case, but security forces rescued and transferred him to a room near the courtroom. There are 25 defendants in the Battle of the Camel trial, including Abu el-Einein, Mortada Mansour, former head of the People's Assembly Ahmed Fathy Sorour, former head of the Shura Council Safwat al-Sherif and various former members of the disgraced National Democratic Party (NDP).
