The activist group ‘No to military trials of civilians' in Alexandria expressed their satisfaction with the recent decisions issued by the Central Military Court, which acquitted all the accused in the events of June 28 and 29 in Tahrir square, in addition to a number of other defendants who were released due to lack of jurisdiction. This is at a time when the group expressed concern about the slow pace of judicial appeal against the verdicts, when the military challenged the date of trials in 2012, which means some of the defendants may spend 15 months in prison waiting to be tried. The group noted in an issued statement on Thursday some of these defendants may be forced to spend nearly two months in military prison before being released by the military court. The group demanded to halt all military trials of civilians and for all civilian trials to be submitted to civil courts. The group also called for an investigation into the events of August 22, of the unrest among the prosecuted civilians and members of the military in a military prison. They also asked for the highest degree of emergency medical care and specialized treatment for any patient and to prevent any deterioration, physical or psychological, with speed. They also demand opening investigations into any violation committed by the military police and to hold those involved accountable.
