MATROUH, Egypt: Security forces at Salloum port confiscated U.S. $1,350,000 from a Libyan who was trying to smuggle the funds into Egypt illegally through Salloum. Maj. Gen. Hussein Fekry, assistant minister of interior and Matrouh security director, received notification from Squad 33 that Libyan citizen Haitham Mounir Mohamed of Benghazi, Libya, age 33, was captured at Salloum port during smuggling $1.35 million into Egypt. The defendant hid the money inside his car and he said he was going to buy goods in Egypt for trading. He also said he was going to send some of the money to an unnamed person in the United Arab Emirates. The captured money and the car are now under custody of the prosecution, and the incident was filled in report no. 442. The accused and the seized items are being investigated by Egypt's public prosecution.
