links: , The Criminal Court of Shubra Al-Khaimah, lead by Judge Reda El-Bindari, will be holding the third hearing of the former director of Qaliubiya security, Farouk Lashin's, trial along with a number of senior police officers. They are being charged with shooting the demonstrators during the January 25 Revolution, killing of 27 and wounding 40 protesters. The public prosecutor, under the supervision of Chancellor Jalal Abdel Latif, ordered the transfer of the defendants to criminal court for participating in the murder of Mohamed Mahmoud Ahmed and other demonstrators during the peaceful demonstrations on January 25. They are also being accused of instigating officers to fire at the demonstrators to terrify them and get them to disperse. However, being armed with firearms is in violation of the rules and regulations governing police response to demonstrations. The defendants' mistakes caused serious harm to the funds and the interests of their workplace and the money and interests of third parties. They failed in the assessment of the situation by ordering the dispersing of demonstrators through violence and mobilizing the majority of police officers, leaving facilities and public and private property, without adequate protection. This resulted in damage to facilities, public and private property, and consequently damaged Egypt's economy. Farouk Lashin denied issuing any orders to fire or to withdraw the police force, stressing individual members of the police tried to defend themselves from thugs who were attacking and storming police stations. The rest of the defendants also denied the charges against them.
