NORTH SINAI, Egypt: Abdel Wahab Mabrouk, governor of the North Sinai governorate, denied reports claiming that there is equipment in the Sinai Peninsula to destroy tunnels along Egypt's border with the Gaza strip. Mabrouk said there are only two bulldozers belonging to an Egyptian contractor and there are no Egyptian plans to demolish the tunnels. He added that destroying tunnels is difficult considering the fragile geology of the area, which is prone to tremors. Mabrouk noted that work on the barrier between Egypt and Gaza stopped before the January 25 Revolution, and there re no plans to resume the construction.
