SUEZ, Egypt: A cargo ship flying the Panamanian flag broke down today in the southern waterway of the Suez Canal. The ship was headed to the North Suez Canal when it broke down. It did not affect ship traffic in the heavily-traveled canal. The main engines of the Tally ship, which was hauling 9,000 tons of cargo, stopped suddenly after reaching the Shoulofa region in the southern canal. Suez Security Chief Adel Refaat informed interested parties of the breakdown. The Suez Canal Authority rescue boats pulled the ship in for maintenance.
