CAIRO: For the first time Egypt will host the World Travel Awards. The event will take place at the Savoy Hotel in Egypt's Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh in the middle of September, under the auspices of the Ministry of Tourism and the Tourism Promotion Authority, in cooperation with the hotel. The Savoy Hotel was chosen to host the even, which will be one of Egypt's most important tourism marketing tools in the coming period, particularly in light of the drop in tourism in the wake of Egypt's January 25 Revolution, which toppled the country's 30-year dictator. The World Travel Awards highlights the best that tourism, hotels and aviation across the world have to offer. The awards were established in 1993 in England. Awards are given based on direct voting online for more than 183,000 companies around the world in 160 different countries. Egypt's tourism board, through offices in various European countries, is inviting a large number of foreign media to cover the event. Over 1,200 people are expected to attend, including tour operators, over 350 journalists from across Europe, and other media representatives.
