The Drug Relief Committee at the Pharmacist's Syndicate is launching a campaign to collect EGP 10 million (U.S. $1.68 Million) for victims of famine in Somalia. According to Dr. Yasser Gamal, both pharmacists and the public flooded the committee with donations once it announced the campaign. The committee provides donors with receipts for tax returns. All subsidiary syndicates collect donations using this official receipt. Gamal said the committee would be collecting field donations after Friday prayers in parts of greater Cairo and other parts of Egypt. Dar al-Ifta, a religious institution issuing fatwas (Islamic legal opinions), announced that the assisting those in crises is among the foremost duties of Muslims in the world.
