Ministry of Planning approved the Ministry of Agriculture's private project. The Ministry of Planning will start implementing said projects during the upcoming period, including completion and establishment of infrastructure.
The projects will be implemented on 77,000 acres, including 10,000 acres implemented by the public sector and 67,000 acres implemented by the private sector.
The acres are split up, 62 percent is in South Upper and New Valley and 26 percent is equally distributed between North Sinai and Western North Coast. The rest (ranging between 2,000 or 3,000 acres) is distributed among the Center of Delta, West Delta and Middle Egypt.
As for land reclamation, 64,000 acres will be used, including 8,000 acres by the public sector and 72 percent concentrated in the South Upper and New Valley.
There are aims to raise water usage efficiency in agriculture through gradual improvement to the efficiency of farm irrigation systems, the aim to reach 80 percent irrigation of 8 million acres in 2030.
The aim is also to lessen rice areas, which demand large quantities of water at an estimated 12.4 billion per cubic meter. The Ministry of Planning will also use the water returns saved from the new farm irrigation system to provide new land for agriculture, estimated at 1.25 million acres until the year 2017, and reaching 3.1 million acres in 2030.
The Ministry of Planning estimated job opportunities in agriculture and related activities with 4 million jobs until 2030. The ministry assured its aim will depend on those who provide strategic goods.
The percentage of self-sufficient wheat is expected to rise gradually from 54 percent to 81 percent in 2030, corn from 53 percent to 92 percent, sugar from 77 percent to 93 percent, meat from 67 percent to 93 percent and fish from 97 percent to 99 percent.
There will be concentration on the development of a unified tool for the allocation of land for agricultural investment, along with facilitating procedures for obtaining loans. The ministry will also prepare an investing plan for Egyptian agriculture by identifying components, elements and specified areas for each different usage.
There are suggestions to re-open the stock market of contracts and spot goods to deal with Egyptian cotton and establishing a room for El-Makasa Company within the stock market.
The report by the Ministry of the Planning stated there will be a monitoring system for tax policies of the agricultural land.
