The Israeli government sent a senior military commander o Egypt yesterday evening to hold a special meeting with Egyptian security officials. The Israeli newspaper Maariv described the visit of Israeli Gen. Amir Eichel, Chairman of the Planning Authority Staff of the Israeli Army, as extremely sensitive and important. Maariv revealed that Eichel presented preliminary results of the investigation into Thursday's killing of Egyptian security forces on the Israeli -Egyptian border to the Egyptian officials. He also promised to engage the Egyptian side in the investigation by a decision of Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak. In the same context, military sources told Israeli newspaper Yediot Aharonot that Gen. Eichel's visit during this particular period is of the utmost importance and aims to maintain the security relations between the two countries, which have been affected since former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak stepped down in February. Yediot added that the Israeli Prime Minister's office denied what was published yesterday about the arrival of a high-level Israeli delegation to Egypt to discuss the themes of the truce between Israel and Hamas and strained relations with Egypt.
