Coptic Christian activist, Michel Mounir, decided to establish a new political party, Al-Hayat Party, which will focus on the state of Coptic Christians and other marginalized factions. Mounir started to seriously establish Al-Hayat Party, which will be announced during the next few days. Sources said Al-Hayat is a liberal and not a religious party. He pointed out the party includes Muslims among its founders. He added the idea was inspired by political parties, especially the Free Egyptians Party, to attract Egyptian Coptic Christians. Mounir and the leaders of Al-Hayat Party believe Coptic Christian are still waiting for a party that can gain their confidence and express their ambitions and aspirations. Sources added the Friday of Reunification on July 29, the day Islamists and the Muslim Brotherhood dominated Tahrir Square, led to an increasing fear for Egyptian Christians, which prompted Mounir to establish a new political party. On the other hand, Al-Hayat Party is holding negotiations with a number of political figures to represent the party during the next parliamentary elections. The party will work to gather Coptic Christians with Muslims in one party to participate in coalitions with other liberal parties. The party will work to establish a civil state respecting freedom, principles of human rights, equality among all citizens, regardless of religion, sex or ideology. The party will also focus on achieving sustainable development, social justice, and following the law.
