Egyptian internet users increased by 1.3 million users in the past four months. In March 2011, Egypt had 24 million users; now there are 25.3 million. Internet networks reach 1.2 million homes, according to reports issued by the Egyptian Ministry of Telecommunication and Information Technology. There has been a notable increase in the number of internet users after Egypt's January 25 Revolution in order to follow information related to the revolution, according to the report. Users of social networks such as Facebook, Twitter and YouTube have also notably increased. Dr. Amr Badawy, head of the National Telecom Regulatory Authority, said there has been a notable increase in turnout at internet services after the launch of Egypt's revolution. He said 31,000 people request internet services per month, and the number of YouTube users in Egypt increased to 8 million. The ministry is working to adopt a new strategy to face the increasing number of internet users, in cooperation with the regulatory authority, mobile companies and Egyptian telecommunication. The ministry will announce its new strategy in October.
