Qena inhabitants welcome Labib
Published in Youm7 on 06 - 08 - 2011

QENA, Egypt: Adel Labib was reappointed again as governor of Qena. Labib was the governor of Qena a few years ago and achieved great progress in the governorate.
When the former governor of Qena, Emad Shehata Mikhail, held his post was governer, Qena witnessed the greatest protest refusing Mikhail and demanding Labib's return.
Protestors said Labib worked to develop Qena and so they went to Egyptian Prime Minister, Essam Sharaf, asking for Labib's return. Qena residents established a page on Facebook supporting Adel Labib.
They listed their reasons for choosing Adel Labib by listing progress as governor of Qena; he ended tribal problems in Qena and there was not a single sectarian strife during his tenure.
"All Qena Coptic Chrisitans are very happy for Labib's return," said the spokesman of Qena Coptic association, Talaat Anees. “We are seeing Labib at 6:00 A.M. to supervise lighting the roads himself. Labib also developed many Qena cities and villages.”
"Labib developed Qena and made it a beautiful governorate in Egypt," said director of Free Egyptians Party office, Ahmed Mahmoud. He said the Free Egyptians Party congratulates Labib for his return as governor of Qena.
Salafis however are split between supporters and opponents for Labib. Some Salafis refused Labib since he was officer in the dissolved State Security System and others consider Labib as a good governor who works to develop the governorate.
"Most of Qena's residents welcome Labib. However the political forces refuse him as governor since he was a former police officer and one of state security members," said revolution coalition member, Mostafa Gales.
Gales also said political forces and coalition will issue a statement to refuse Labib and arrange a demonstration. But they believe Qena's residents have the right to choose what is best for their governorate.
