Thirty-four human rights organizations condemned a military verdict issued yesterday in Asyut sentencing political activist Ahmed Sayed to two years in jail. Sayed, a member of the Arab-European Center for Human Rights and International Law in Egypt, was charged with unfair accusations during his participation in the administrative corruption control department. Ahmed was arrested in June after attending a protest outside the City Council building against the Chairman of the council in Dakhla City in the New Valley Governorate. The protest led to clashes between citizens and employees and resulted in many injuries. Sayed, who held various meetings with the citizens in the protests, was charged with inciting citizens to riot and attacking the chairman. Sayed was tried and convicted before a military court.
