There are many ways to enjoy the holy month of Ramadan, and Al-Azhar Park offers one of many ways to enjoy Iftar, the breaking of the fast. There are a number of restaurants in Al-Azhar Park to enjoy, but picnics are a less conventional way of breaking the fast and are just as enjoyable. By picking a spot on top of a hill at the highest peak in Al-Azhar Park, one can enjoy a 360-degree panorama view of Cairo underneath a glorious sunset, soaking the city in oranges and reds. For a picnic on a patch of grass in Al-Azhar Park, it is advisable to pick a spot on a high hill to be able to enjoy the sunset and hear the azan, the call to prayer, echo throughout Cairo. There are several items that would make the meal pleasant: a piece of cloth or plastic for a sitting area to avoid grass getting into the food; plastic plates, cups and culinary utensils to be able to serve the food and eat it; a garbage bag to collect the trash as to not litter; and a camera to capture the simple joys of nature, a glorious sunset and memories with friends. For choices of food, it s advisable to take dry finger foods and salads and avoid more messy foods, like soup or stews. The dry foods will be easier to handle and won't spill during transportation or moving around. Eating all sorts of salads while surrounded by grass, trees and nature will give a new sense of liveliness. Tickets into Al-Azhar Park are 10 EGP per person, and there are parking spaces available inside and outside the park.
