Lawyer Farid el-Deeb represents former President Hosni Mubarak, who is accused of murder and financial corruption. Deeb said he is defending Mubarak because, as a lawyer, it is his job to support anyone who asks for help. "I agreed to defend former President Hosni Mubarak because I respect him,” said Deeb. During an interview with writer Magdy el-Galad, Deep said he is a contemporary of Mubarak and always saw him as a military man. "I still call Mubarak ‘president' because this is what I was raised to do," said Deeb. He also said those who claim Mubarak damaged Egypt are liars. “Why do we always remember the bad things, when there were many achievements during Mubarak's rule?” Deeb asked. Deeb said the enthusiasm of the former president's youngest son, Gamal, had bad effects on his father and on the entire company; people flattered Gamal to achieve personal interests. “Mubarak did not flee like [Tunisia's] Zine el-Abidine Ben Ali or kill his people like [Libya's] Muammar Gadhafi,” said Deeb. “Mubarak is ready to face any accusations and defend himself, because he did not commit any crimes. Deeb said Mubarak's greatest mistake was promising journalists to cancel the law which punishes them for libel.
